AN AIRBORNE INFECTIOUS DISEASE YOU MAY BE EXPOSED TO

Tuberculosis (TB) is an airborne infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It can spread through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, talks, or sings.

High-risk groups include :

  • Children under 5 years old
  • People with chronic diseases, such as diabetes or kidney disease
  • People with weakened immune systems or those taking immunosuppressive medications

If someone in your family has tuberculosis :
People who live with or spend a lot of time indoors with an infected person should undergo screening, such as :

  • Chest X-ray
  • Blood test or skin test

Early screening can help detect tuberculosis infection and allow appropriate treatment to prevent the disease from progressing or spreading.
